#21 Go-Giver Spirit Carried Throughout The Year

San Antonio

Act of Kindness: The San Antonio Marketing Team is reading THE GO-GIVER as our first business book of the year. The book focuses on the concept of giving to others, personally and professionally, and the authors suggest that success comes to those who think more about others than of themselves. Terri epitomizes this philosophy, so we’re dedicating ourselves and our sales efforts this year to truly helping others, as Terri does every day!

How do you know Terri: I work in the San Antonio division of Independence Title Company; Terri is VP of Escrow for Independence Title.

Birthday Message to Terri: Happy 50th Birthday, Terri!!! Thanks for all you do!

#20 Hill County Paw Pals Feels The Warmth of Sunshine

Cathy

Act of Kindness: Terri and I share a love for our animals and consider our pets to be members of our family. I had read an on-line news story about an abused puppy that had been rescued and taken to Hill County Paw Pals, a non-profit animal shelter in Hillsboro, Texas. In July 2012, the puppy, who was later named Julie, was found in the back seat of a car at a truck stop in Abbott and had been severely abused by her owner (who was later jailed for animal abuse). Although Julie’s medical bills amounted to thousands of dollars and at times her prognosis seemed bleak, the animal shelter, through donations, love, and constant care-giving, nursed Julie back to health. Today, Julie is healthy and happy and lives with her human companion who loves and adores her. I followed Julie’s progress on the animal shelter’s FaceBook page and continue to follow the orphan and lost puppies and kitties that come through their doors. In honor of Terri’s 50th birthday, Sunshine and I are donating $50 ($1 for each year of her life) to the Hill County Paw Pals animal shelter for their selfless and wonderful work with animals…and I think that both Lexie and Sandy would approve!

How do you know Terri: This year, I have officially known and worked with Terri for 20 years. Not only is she a wonderful friend, but over the years, she has been my teacher, mentor, rock, and occasional voice of reason. She has a very big and generous heart and has truly shown me the importance of paying it forward in life. I am honored to call her my friend as well as be a part of her 50th birthday surprise.

Birthday Message to Terri: Happy Birthday, Terri! I know that you have never been a huge fan of birthday celebrations, but I have a feeling you will be very pleased with this year’s celebration. Enjoy your special day…you may be turning 50, but you will always be 37 to me! 😉

#17 A Perfect Stranger Pays It Forward

soda

Act of Kindness: I was at the hospital visiting my mom, who recently had surgery and there were two elementary aged boys at the vending machines and they were having a hard time getting the machine to read their debit card so I bought them the soda they were talking about while they were trying an alternate machine. They were shocked and very appreciative.

You never know what someone is going through and helping someone who is in the hospital visiting someone else made me feel good. Sometimes there we need acts of kindness the most.

How do you know Terri: Aaron Enfield knows her and getting me to do an act of kindness on her behalf is his act of kindness for her.

Birthday Message to Terri: Hope you have a fantastic birthday and that seeing all these acts of kindness brings a smile to your face.

#15 A Smile Says It All

robbie_and_rene3

Act of Kindness: Sometimes you have the means to donate to charities, sometimes you don’t but you can always afford a smile or a compliment to a stranger. There were times when my son was in school and I was struggling with helping him be successful, working full time and dealing with in-laws that were ill when a smile from someone made a huge difference in how my day went. Ever since I have made a point of smiling at the people I pass as I go through my day. It’s free and you never know how much that person needs a friendly face and to feel like someone gives a flip if they exist or not. Unexpected compliments are another act of kindness that costs nothing. This morning I told a woman at Church that I’d been admiring her hair for weeks. Terri & I’s Mom and I have been walking at Lowes 3 mornings a week. The man in the picture I’m attaching never fails to give us a smile and encourage us in our walking. Not sure who initially smiled at whom but I know we brighten each other’s days.

How do you know Terri: When I was two my parents brought her home from the hospital. She’s my Sister!

Birthday Message to Terri: Happy Birthday Little Sister, I hope this is a wonderful wonderful year for you. I’m so glad we grew up to be friends, I’m sure Mom was doubtful it would ever happen, or for that matter if we’d both survive to adulthood much less the big 50…
