Act of Kindness: This is Aaron writing the story for Leslie. Today Leslie got a call in the afternoon from one of her friends who lives up the street. This friend has 5 boys ranging from 1 1/2 yrs old to 11 yrs old.
The boys’ aunt was to pick them up and watch them today until she picked the mother up from work around 6PM. The aunt lost her keys near the boys’ home and she didn’t have a way to pick up the 3 boys who were in school or travel with the two boys with her. It was windy to the point of blowing off several roofs and knocking down fences in the neighborhood. The mother called Leslie knowing that we lived right around the corner.
Leslie was on a playdate at the time so she called me. I went to pick up the aunt and the two boys and brought them to our house. I got them situated in the toy room and waited for Leslie to return.
Leslie returned and then went with the aunt to pick up 2 of the boys from school. They came back so now we have 4 extra boys at the house. I watched the boys while they were gone.
Eventually it was time to go pick up the last boy from school. I texted Leslie after about 30 minutes. The boy was nowhere to be found.
A hunt ensued. He wasn’t in the neighborhood, at the parks, at the school, at the YMCA. They eventually came back to the house to regroup. Leslie then took the oldest boy around the neighborhood to try to find the missing boy. Leslie found the van keys while they were out but no boy.
All this time the other boys were playing with Egan and then watching the Lorax like there was nothing going on. The aunt was doing her best to keep from being frantic, but you could tell she was very nervous.
Around 5:15PM they all came back to the house and I went to the boys’ house to watch to see if the missing boy returned. I got a call from Leslie saying he finally showed up. Unbeknownst to anyone, he went to a friend’s house in Mayfield Ranch after school. The friends dropped him off at our place, he kicked off his shoes and jumped on the couch with the rest of the herd, and they continued watching Hotel Transylvania, no one the wiser.
A happy ending! Another “it takes a village to raise a herd” story 🙂
